Takeaways from India’s dominant 4-1 T20I series win over West Indies

(Cricket news) India completed a very one sided 4-1 series win over the West Indies. Despite resting a lot of key players for the games, India proved to be too strong for the West Indies. The men in blue's depth is proving to be on another level as every player who is asked to play is showing incredible quality. A few players are even asked to play different roles in different games and they are successfully doing it. India's experimentation period in the T20I format is concluded with this series as next up is the Asia Cup before the bilateral series against Australia and South Africa after which is the T20I World Cup. India is likely to field a full strength squad for all four of these series.

Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma opened the batting in the first 4 games while Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were asked to open in the 5th match. India's opening combination is being changed in every series. With doubts looming over KL Rahul's fitness and availability, it is still unclear who will open with Rohit Sharma in the Asia Cup. Rohit Sharma had decent starts in all 4 matches and converted one of them into a fifty. Suryakumar Yadav showed his class, finishing as the highest run scorer of the series with 135 runs. Rishabh Pant had been a little underwhelming with the bat in this particular format but he too showcased his ability by scoring 115 which were the 2nd most in the series.

Avesh Khan was very expensive in the 2nd and 3rd T20I but was backed by the management and he delivered a player of the match performance in the 4th match. Arshdeep Singh was awarded the Player of the Series for his incredible performance in all 5 matches. He did everything that his captain asked him to do and put forward his name for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. Ravi Bishnoi was India's highest wicket taker despite playing only 3 matches. Ravichandran Ashwin had a decent return to the T20I squad as he picked up as did Kuldeep Yadav. Axar Patel continues to deliver with both bat and ball whenever given an opportunity which puts a little bit of pressure on Ravindra Jadeja.

India's biggest takeaway was that despite chopping and changing the team so many times every player looked ready to deliver. The time of experimentation in this format might be over with 2 very tough bilateral series and 2 tournaments coming up. There is going to be a selection headache for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid but it will be a good one. India is looking like a force in the T20I format but they will need to break that barrier of not being able to win the big tournaments in the next couple of months.
