Takeaways from India’s All-round performance in the Sri Lanka Test series

(Cricket news) India once again inflicted a whitewash on Sri Lanka by winning the Test series 2-0. The men in blue won both the Test matches comfortably and apart from one session on day 3 of the 2nd Test they didn't lose a single session. Rishabh Pant was named man of the series while Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer won the two 'player of the match' awards.

Ravindra Jadeja created history in the first Test as he scored an unbeaten 175 and took 9 wickets in the match. Ravichandran Ashwin was reliable as always, as he scripted history by moving up the chart of the highest wicket takers. Mohammed Shami was solid whenever called upon and so was Axar Patel after his return from injury in the 2nd Test. Jasprit Bumrah proved once and for all that he is a deadly bowler in any conditions. His performance was a revelation and a very big positive for India.

Rishabh Pant was promoted to number 5 and did exceedingly well. He played his usual attacking game but it was his keeping that was astonishing. He took some brilliant catches and inflicted a few clean stumpings. Shreyas Iyer played really well in the 2nd match on a tough turning track while Hanuma Vihari scored a good fifty in the 1st game. The post Pujara and Rahane era is looking good for the Indian side.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mayank Agarwal did not have a good series. Kohli's average dropped below fifty after a long time. Agarwal seems to have wasted his chance in Rahul's absence. Shubman Gill had to sit out the series but should get his chance in due course of time. As for Rohit Sharma, his performance with the bat wouldn't be too much of a concern as his captaincy is reaching new heights. It was overall a good Test series for India. They will have to wait 3 months before their next and final Test match of the year against England at Edgbaston. India have climbed up in the World Test Championship table. They need to realistically win all their remaining matches to qualify for the finals but this Indian side is capable of doing so.
