Takeaways from Indian women’s T20I series win over Sri Lanka

(Cricket news) Indian women's team defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the T20I series to clinch the trophy. The visitors won the first two games very comfortably and were convincingly beaten in the last match. There are a lot of positives for India to take from the series. It is the beginning of a new era with Harmanpreet Kaur as the all format captain. Kaur said before the series that having one captain will help her and the team to do well. She has taken the first steps towards walking that talk with a good series win.

Harmanpreet Kaur was the player of the series as she scored 92 runs and picked up a wicket. The skipper led from the front and looks to have come back into form at the international stage. Kaur had a decent World Cup but was out of form for a long time before that. It is very important for India that the batting all-rounder is back in form because she is a very important part of the team. Now with the added responsibility of a captain even more so. Jemimah Rodrigues, who made her international comeback scored 72 runs in 3 games while batting at number 5. Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma once again gave India good starts as they continued to consistently score runs.

India played Richa Ghosh as the wicket keeper in the first match but then dropped her for Yastika Bhatia. The management did continue to back S Meghna who batted at number 3 which is Rodrigues' natural position. Richa Ghosh has shown great potential in her short international career so far but she is still very young. Being dropped after playing the first game surely isn't right but at the same time Yastika Bhatia did deserve a place in the side. The competition is very good for the team as a whole and the captain along with the coach will be hoping that it increases.

This was one more series where Poonam Yadav couldn't find a place in the side. Both left arm spinners Radha Yadav and Rajeshwari Gayakwad played the first match while India opted for 3 seamers in the next two matches. India will now gear up for the three ODIs in Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium. Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav are not a part of the ODI squad while Taniya Bhatia and Harleen Deol are in it.
