Takeaways from India women’s ODI and T20I squad for the England tour

(Cricket news) BCCI has announced the Indian women's team squad for the tour of England. After winning the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, India will now travel to England for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. India will be extremely disappointed after losing the final game against Australia which was pretty much in their hands. Now it's time for them to reset and start the preparations for next year's T20 World Cup. This will be newly appointed ODI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's first real Test in the One day format.

India’s T20I squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-captain), Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Jemimah Rodrigues, Sneh Rana, Renuka Thakur, Meghna Singh, Radha Yadav, Sabbineni Meghana, Taniyaa Sapna Bhatia (WK), Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Dayalan Hemalatha, Simran Dil Bahadur, Richa Ghosh (WK), K.P. Navgire.

The lack of a big hitter in India's middle order was highlighted after the Commonwealth Games defeat. The selectors have responded by picking powerful hitter K.P. Navgire. Dayalan Hemalatha also makes a comeback into the squad. Another big hitter Richa Ghosh who was just a stand-by in the Commonwealth Games is back. Yastika Bhatia and Harleen Deol have been dropped from the side which clearly indicates that India want more players who can clear the boundary line.

India’s ODI squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Shafali Verma, Sabbineni Meghana, Deepti Sharma, Taniyaa Sapna Bhatia (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana, Renuka Thakur, Meghna Singh, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Harleen Deol, Dayalan Hemalatha, Simran Dil Bahadur, Jhulan Goswami, Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues is back in the ODI squad for the first time since the Australia tour. Sneh Rana who was rested for the Sri Lanka tour is also back in the mix. Veteran Jhulan Goswami is fit and back in the squad. There are reports that this will be her farewell tour with the last match at Lords. Dayalan Hemalatha who last played international cricket in March 2021 is back in the squad. Poonam Yadav whose form has been consistently going down has been dropped from the squad along with Richa Ghosh. The dropping of Ghosh is very harsh because she is the kind of player who needs to be nurtured. The keeper batter is still very young and has a lot to learn and she is eventually likely to be back soon.
