Taijul Islam leading Bangladesh attack against Pakistan in 1st Test

(Cricket news) Taijul Islam has been one of the rising bolwers for the Bangladesh team. The 29 year old spinner has already taken 141 wickets in 34 matches, he can become the second bowler after Shakib Al Hasan to take more than 150 wickets in Test matches for Bangladesh. He is the only player from Bangladesh to take 8 wickets in an innings of a Test match.

After a solid domestic season in 2013–14, Taijul was selected for Bangladesh A and made his Test debut for the country during its 2014 tour of the West Indies. On debut, he took a five-wicket haul, and later that year, when Zimbabwe toured Bangladesh, he took 8/39, the highest figures by any Bangladeshi in a Test match. Later in the series, he made his ODI debut and scored a hat-trick, becoming the first player to do so on debut.

Taijul is currently playing against Pakistan and took the fifth best figures for the side in the first innings of the ongoing test. He took 119-7 which included the top three batters and has supported the team even without their leading bowler Shakib. Shakib is expected to play in the second Test which will prove to be a major boost to the side.

Bangladesh side will need bowlers like him as the side has seen many pacers and still has them but spinners have remotely found success with the team. Taijul has picked up 27 wickets this season in Test matches which is the most in his side, he is the third bowler this year to take a 7 wicket haul after Rashid Khan and Lasith Embuldeniya. Taijul so far has the best figures of this year in a Test innings with his performance against Pakistan in the 1st innings.

This year has been most rewarding for spinners as Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Embuldeniya have played an important role for their respective teams. Taijul is the 8th highest wicket taker this year along with Kyle Jamieson and Kemar Roach. Amongst the spinners, Taijul is the fourth highest after Ashwin, Axar and Jack Leach.

Taijul will look to strike again in the second innings as Pakistan look to chase 202 in the final day of the 1st test. Pakistan are currently 109 without loss as they are on course for a comfortable victory unless Bangladesh sets up a miraculous comeback. Maybe take some inspiration from New Zealand who thrived in the dark on the final day.
