Second fiddle Indian team take on West Indies in the 1st ODI

(Cricket news) After an incredible series win against England, India now take on West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval. Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli are all rested for the series. It will be a great opportunity for the younger lot to make an impact and push for a place in the squad with the World Cup coming next year. West Indies on the other hand have gone with a very strong squad. The Windies failed to win a single match in their tour of India earlier this year and they will be searching for revenge this time around.

India's possible playing XI:

Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna.

Bench: Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh

Picking Ishan Kishan's batting position is going to be a tough call because other selections will revolve around that. There are several reports that Ravindra Jadeja could be rested for the series as a whole to manage his knee injury. There is nothing official yet and he was named the vice captain therefore there is a high possibility that he will play. The young seam attack of Siraj, Shardul and Prasidh will be very exciting to watch in Caribbean conditions.

West Indies possible playing XI:

Shai Hope, Brandon King, Shamarh Brooks, Nicholas Pooran (c & wk), Rovman Powell, Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder, Keemo Paul, Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph

Bench: Keacy Carty, Jayden Seales

The Windies will be under the captaincy of Nicholas Pooran after the international retirement of Kieron Pollard. Jason Holder is back in the side and will be extremely crucial in this line-up. The last series in India was a whitewash and the Windies will be hoping for a much better performance this time around. They have incredible hitting power in their lineup but they might need someone to hold their end and play for the entire 50 overs.

The battle between the big hitters of West Indies and the spinners of India is likely to have a big impact on the final result. The Indian selectors have taken some amount of risk by resting all the big players for the series more so if Jadeja is also rested. If India doesn't perform well then there will be scrutiny at some level. Having said that, this Indian team is more than capable of putting in a good performance and winning the series.
