Reasons for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s batting woes in IPL 2022

(Cricket news) Royal Challengers Bangalore in all these years has never managed to win the IPL. Despite being one of the top teams consistently, RCB has never gone all the way and won the silverware. Traditionally, Bangalore is always known for being a batter dominated side who is often let down by its bowlers but this time it seems to be the other way around. The bowlers have performed very well for RCB this season but the batting has been well below standard. The absence of AB de Villiers after all these years can clearly be seen but there are other factors as well.

RCB unsurprisingly retained Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell before the auction. They signed Faf du Plessis to become the new captain and opener. Dinesh Karthik was brought in to be the designated finisher for the team and he has been excellent so far this season. Despite having a strong core group, RCB have been disappointing as a batting unit this season. The management backed Anuj Rawat for as long as they could but dropped him in the last game. Shabaz Ahmed has been good in patches but hasn't played a big innings yet. Suyasb Prabhudesai has also been underwhelming.

Maxwell hasn't got going so far this season with just 1 fifty in 6 matches. Du Plessis has played a couple of very good knocks but hasn't been able to replicate his form from last season. Virat Kohli is a different story altogether as he is in his worst ever period form wise. The former Indian captain has scored only 128 runs in 9 games with the highest score of 48. With Kohli it always feels like a big knock is around the corner but it has been a while since a big knock. The big worry amongst all cricket lovers is whether Kohli will actually come back or not. He played the first 8 games batting at number 3. After two golden ducks, Kohli was promoted to open the innings. This could have been the magic but it wasn't as his struggles continued.

Now RCB have done everything they can to change personnel wise and it might be time for a little bit of an attitude change. RCB got all out on 68 while batting first against Sunrisers Hyderabad and in the very next day were bowled out at 115 while chasing 145 against Rajasthan Royals. Virat Kohli needs to rediscover his form while others also need to take more responsibility. Mahipal Lamror, who has been sitting on the bench, is a candidate to come in the side.
