According to a press release by Discovery+, it is now presenting – “Capturing Cricket: Steve Waugh in India”, a 60 minute documentary that captures the infinite love and enthusiasm for the game in the nation through the lens of former Australian Captain Steve Waugh – the legend behind Australia’s golden period in cricket.
The documentary is narrated by a well known Indian cricket commentator and analyst – Harsha Bhogle and directed by award-winning director Nel Minchin along with being written by Mithila Gupta. As a treat to the viewers, it will also feature additional interviews by Indian cricketing maestros like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid with Australian legends like Adam Gilchrist and Lisa Sthalekar. The plot of the movie encircles Steve Waugh’s love for photography and his fondness for India and its deeply rooted cricketing culture since his first international tour in 1986.
After 30 years and hundreds of cricketing visits later, Waugh returns to take on a new challenge that is to discover the true spirit and essence of cricket along with an understanding for its unique capacity to unite.
Flanked by a mentor, Magnum photographer Trent Parke, and friend Jason Brooks, Steve trails the nation with his camera in hand, in nine prominent cities manifesting India’s passion for cricket which is equivalent to a religion. Sculpted with candid, observational footage from the visit and interviews, this docu-series explores Steve’s relationship with cricket and reveals why India means so much to one of the world’s most respected cricketers.
Speaking on the launch of the documentary in India, Steve Waugh said, “Capturing Cricket is especially very near to my heart as it covers two of my passions i.e cricket and photography.
“My recent journey visiting Taj Mahal, Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Maharajah Lakshmi Vilas Palace, HPCA Stadium, Oval Maidan, as well as locations around Delhi and Kolkata, gave me stories and lifetime memories. I am positive that when the fans in India watch the documentary, they will be able to feel the very emotion of the journey.”
