Mishra’s magic helps Delhi Capitals rattle Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets

Delhi Capitals' spin wizard Amit Sharma unleashed his magic to reduce Mumbai Indians at a below par target powering his side to a clinical 6 wicket win at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Tuesday.

Deciding to bat first at the Chennai strip, MI did not have an ideal start as they lost their opener Quinton de Kock on 1. Captain Rohit Sharma (44) and Suryakumar Yadav (24) built a 58-run second wicket partnership. Rohit was off to a flying start but his intentions of converting it into a big inning were thwarted by Mishra.

Mishra dismissed Rohit for the seventh time in IPL and wrecked MI's batting order further by clinching important wickets of explosive batters Hardik Pandya (0), Kieron Pollard (2), along with that of MI's rising star Ishan Kishan (26). He finished his brilliant four over spell with the figures of 4/24 that guided Capitals to stop MI at a below par 137/9 in their 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals breached the target comfortably as opener Shikhar Dhawan carried on to his purple patch and hit a responsible 45 off 42 balls to keep his side on the driver's seat without taking a lot chances throughout the chase. Dhwan along with Steve Smith (33) contributed 53 runs for the second wicket partnership following the cheap dismissal of Prithvi Shaw on 7.

Further on, Lalit Yadav (22*) and Shimron Hetmyer (14*) took DC home in the 20th over as the Rishabh Pant led side finally defeated the defending champions for the first time after suffering loss in their last 4 encounters including the IPL 2020 final last year in UAE

With this result, DC moved to the second spot of the points table with three wins from their first four outings this season. After claiming a four-wicket haul in this match Mishra also came closer to Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga's record as the leading wicket-takers of IPL. Mishra has 164 scalps under his belt from 152 games as he is now just seven preys behind Malinga's 170 in the list of highest wicket takers of all time.
