Martin Guptill and Tim Southee lead Blackcaps at the T20 World cup

(Cricket news) The New Zealand side has been a consistent performer in the cricketing world, the team has two semifinal finishes at the T20 World Cup. They won the ICC Test Championship which was their second tournament win after the 2000 ICC Knockout trophy. New Zealand will look to be the first team to win trophies in three formats and with the experience on the side, they will look to break their T20 jinx.

 

Martin Guptill

Guptill is currently the most experienced player on the side, the right hander has played 102 matches in the shortest format and is the leading run scorer for his team. His footwork and strokes are classy and can also clear the boundaries with style. Guptill can give the team an explosive start and can take on spinners, he is the leading run scorer for the team in T20 this year with 318 runs in 8 matches.

 

Tim Southee

Southee is the third highest wicket taker in T20 internationals with 99 wickets from 83 matches. The right arm medium fast bowler will be spearheading the bowling attack for the blackcaps and with players like Trent Boult and Lockie Ferugson, the team will have a top tier bowling attack. Southee is the only bowler from the team who is currently in the top ten of ICC T20 rankings.

 

Ish Sodhi

The spinner is the second highest wicket taker for the team after Tim Southee, he has taken 73 wickets from 57 matches. Sodhi is the leading wicket taker for the team this year in T20 as he has picked up 17 wickets from 7 matches and has already taken two 4 wicket hauls. He will be leading the spin attack for the team and can produce match winning spells in the tournament.

 

Kane Williamson

The captain of the side and one of the best batsmen in the current generation, Williamson has been the team’s most valuable player in all the formats. The right hander is known to adapt to any conditions, he can be a run scoring machine at the same time can score runs at a slow pace while guiding the wickets. Williamson has the ability to find the gap as he can score runs at the ground level without necessarily smacking the ball and is currently recovering from an elbow injury.
