Ireland’s Gareth Delany pulls out of series against Netherlands due to injury, Ben White called up

DUBLIN – Cricket Ireland on Friday confirmed that Gareth Delany has been forced to withdraw from the Ireland squad for World Cup Super League fixtures against Netherlands after enduring a knee injury. Ben White has been called up as his replacement.

White, is a leg-spinner who was part of the Ireland Wolves squad that toured Bangladesh in February/March. The 22 year old was also part of the Wolves squad against Netherlands A, earlier this month. He represents the Northern Knights in the Inter-Provincial Series and CSNI at club level.The change was made before the squad’s departure on Sunday.

Mark Rausa, Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services at Cricket Ireland, said: “Unfortunately, Gareth didn’t take part in yesterday’s Munster Reds versus Northern Knights match at Pembroke after he sustained a knee injury during the warm-ups. We have ruled him out of the Netherlands tour and will send him for further assessment, before starting him on a rehabilitation programme ahead of the upcoming home internationals.”

The series will take place in Utrecht, and will feature a three-match ODI series with points won adding towards qualification for the ICC World Cup 2023. The ODI series will be played from June 2 to June 7.
