Ireland moving on from US tour to heavy hitting Caribbean clash

(Cricket news) Ireland had become a part of history a few weeks ago when it played on US soil. It was a full series against the US team which was cut short due to the pandemic which has again hit many teams including the West Indies. Both the teams had their previous tour cut short as the hosts had to leave the Pakistan series midway. This time the teams will look to win and play the whole series as they need a thumbs up at the start of the season, all the matches will be played at Sabina Park in Kingston. Ireland batters will look to hit it as long as they have to face many power hitters. Here are the top four players to watch out for from the Ireland side in the ODI series.

Paul Stirling

Stirling is one of the senior most players on the squad as he has been with the team since 2008. He will not be seen in the 1st match as he was tested positive a few days ago and is expected to arrive before the 2nd ODI. Stirling was the leading run scorer in ODI’s last season with 705 runs in 14 innings which included 3 centuries and 2 half centuries. Stirling can make an impression in Jamaica with his effortless batting and needs 18 runs to become the first batter from his side to score 5000 runs in the 50 over format.

Harry Tector

The 22 year old made his debut two years ago and already has scored 511 in 17 matches of which 450 runs last season. The right hander will be ready to explore the pitches and continue his runs scoring habit. Tector has been keeping the ball on the ground and will need to mix up his game against the West Indies bowling attack which is also not very experienced.

Joshua Little

Joshua is also one of the latest additions to the team, he was the leading wicket taker for the side previous season in the 50 over format. The left arm pacer took 17 wickets in 8 innings and was one of the best bowlers in the 2021 season. The 22 year old will need to take full advantage of the pitch and can aim for a maiden five wicket haul.

Andy McBrine

Andy was the only bowler from the side to take a 5 wicket haul last year in ODI’s. He took 5 for 29 in 10 overs against Afghanistan a year ago, the spinner will be looking out for huge swings and misses when he steps out on the pitch. Andy needs three more wickets to become the fifth highest wicket taker for Ireland in ODI’s.
