IPL stars Avesh Khan & P. Krishna rewarded with Test berths against NZ and England, picked as stand by players

BCCI on Friday announced the 20 member Indian squad for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand followed by a five-match Test series against England.

Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna, riding on their brilliant performance in the mid way postponed Indian Premier league, bagged a spot each as the stand by players in the squad.

Delhi Capital's pacer Avesh Khan was sensational in the IPL claiming 14 wickets, with a decent economy of 7.70 and was second in the contention for Purple Cap. The 24-year-old was seen in all eight of DC's games this season.

The right arm fast bowler, who plays for Madhya Pradesh in domestic circuit, has been quite impressive in first-class cricket, claiming 100 wickets in 26 first-class matches. The Indore- based youngster was brilliant in this season’s Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s and he also grabbed 14 wickets in five games to finish third in the list of highest wicket-takers. However the young seamer only came into limelight after his terrific run in the IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Prasidh Krishna also had an impressive run in the IPL. The Karnataka pacer consistently bowled over the speed of 140 km/h throughout his bowling. Krishna made his international debut for India in March 2021 against England and was quick to steal the show with a 4 wicket-haul on ODI debut, finishing with the figures of 4/54 in the first ODI. Krishna's consistency with pace coupled with his amazing control is capable of inflicting some serious damage to the opposition batters. The tall bowler can extract extra bounce and swing the ball at high pace which can be game changing especially in red ball Cricket.

The World Test Championship Finals will be held from June 18th against the Black Caps, followed by a five match test series against England starting from August 4th.

India's squad: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul (subject to fitness clearance), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper; subject to fitness clearance).
