IPL 2021 – Maxwell and Ahmed star as RCB beat SRH by 6 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 runs in a low-scoring contest at MA Chidambaram stadium on Wednesday.

SRH endured a middle order collapse as they got down from 96 for 1 to 142 for 9. SRH skipper David Warner led from the front with a 37-ball 54 but things went out of control for the SRH after his dismissal. Manish Pandey (38 off 39), Jonny Bairstow (12 off 13) and Abdul Samad (0 off 2 ) made their way back to the pavilion in a stunning 17th over bowled by Shahbaz Ahmed. SRH kept losing wickets in quick succession and Rashid Khan’s cameo of 18 off 9 balls did not suffice to seal the game for SRH. This was SRH’s second consecutive loss while chasing.

Earlier Warner won the toss and invited Virat and his Challengers to bat first. Glenn Maxwell finally put up a 'Big Show' scoring his first half century since IPL 2016 that powered RCB post a respectable total of 149/8 on a spin-friendly track. SRH took quick wickets before the death overs that helped keep RCB's final total in check.

For SRH, Jason Holder took three crucial wickets including Virat Kohli, Kyle Jamieson and Maxwell on the last ball of the innings. The Aussie power-hitter smashed 59 runs from 41 balls packed with 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Rashid Khan yet again produced an economical spell conceding just 18 runs from his 4 overs along with dismissing RCB's danger man AB de Villiers cheaply. Shahbaz Nadeem proved to be the most expensive bowler for SRH as he conceded 22 runs in his final over. Captain Kohli was the second-highest run maker for RCB scoring 33 runs from 29 deliveries featuring four boundaries. Kyle Jamieson accelerated RCB’s total at the end with a 9-ball cameo of 12 with two boundaries. This was RCB's second successive win as they paved their way on top of the points table.
