England Women defeat New Zealand in Women’s World Cup

(Cricket news) England Women defeated New Zealand by one wicket at Eden Park, winning their second of four must win games and maintained their hopes of reaching the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-finals. Facing hosts New Zealand, the Kiwi’s were restricted to a meagre score of 203 and it was left to England’s Charlie Dean and Anya Shrubsole to get their team over the line after a late collapse.

Earlier Kate Cross (3-35), Sophie Ecclestone (3-41) and Dean (2-36) had put Heather Knight's team in the ascendancy. Another improved performance in the field also featured a spectacular catch from Knight at cover. In reply, England seemed comfortable at 106-3 and then 176-4 – with Nat Sciver the mainstay with 61 – but New Zealand nearly stole it after a dramatic, late flurry of wickets. England's next fixture is against Pakistan in Christchurch on Thursday.
