Could Dinesh Karthik and Umesh Yadav return to the Indian T20I squad?

(Cricket news) The IPL is in full flow and as always it is entertaining. Apart from that, IPL also gives a platform for Indian players to showcase their talent. Players like Ayush Badoni and Tilak Varma have already impressed this season. It is also a platform for older players who have represented the country in the past to show their worth. So far this season, two Indian veterans stand out.

Umesh Yadav hasn't played a white ball game for India since 2019. He is a regular member of the Test side but a return to white ball cricket will definitely be on his mind. After having disappointing seasons at Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, Yadav went unsold in the first round of the auction. In the 2nd round, Kolkata Knight Riders fetched him for the base price of 2 crore.

So far that money is proving to be an absolute bargain. The seamer is currently the purple cap holder with 9 wickets from 4 games with an economy of just 5.25. Even though the competition is tough, Yadav could be knocking the door for a potential comeback in the Indian T20I side. He will need to keep up his performance with KKR for the rest of the season to even be in the mix. If he does end up winning the purple cap it would not guarantee him a call-up but it would definitely get him closer.

The other name that has been getting a lot of attention is Dinesh Karthik. The gloveman is a proper finisher which is something the Indian side does not have. The players who play a finisher's role in the Indian side bat higher up the order for their IPL teams. Karthik has already played quite a few match winning innings this season. If he continues to do so it will be tough to keep him out of the side. The only problem is that the Indian side already has Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as wicket keeping options. Karthik has all the shots in the book which is something India could use in Australian conditions. He didn't have that great of a spell with KKR. RCB spent 5.50 crores to give him a designated finishers role.
