Bangladesh win T20I series against New Zealand amidst World Cup preparations

(Cricket news) Bangladesh have won the 5 match T20I series against New Zealand. This is the first time that Bangladesh have beaten New Zealand in a T20 series. Spinner Nasum Ahmed was awarded the man of the series award for picking up 8 wickets. New Zealand captain Tom Latham was the highest run getter with 159 runs.

In the 1st T20I, New Zealand elected to bat first and were bowled out for 60 runs courtesy of Mustafizur Rahman's 3 for 13. Bangladesh ended up winning the game by 7 wickets with 5 overs to spare. Bangladesh won the toss in the 2nd match and set a target of 142 runs after electing to bat. Tom Latham's unbeaten innings of 65 wasn't enough as the Kiwis could only manage 137.

New Zealand once again elected to bat first in the 3rd match. A good bowling performance from Bangladesh restricted the kiwis to 128 runs. Bangladesh had a golden opportunity to seal the series but Ajaz Patel had different plans. Patel picked up 4 crucial wickets as Bangladesh got bowled out for just 76 runs. Bangladesh did seal it in the next game after they chased a mere target of 94 runs after losing the toss.

The 5th T20I was nothing more than a consolation or a practice for the World Cup as they elected to bat first. Tom Latham's 50 took them to 161 which was by far the highest innings total of the series. Ajaz Patel again led the kiwis bowlers who restricted Bangladesh to 134 as the series finished 3-2.

New Zealand have a white ball series in Pakistan coming up before the T20I World Cup. Bangladesh on the other hand will go straight into the World Cup in UAE.
