Bangladesh progress into the T20 World Cup Super 12s with magnificent victory against Papua New Guinea

(Cricket news) In an emphatic 84 run victory against Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh qualified for a spot at the Super 12s in the T20 World Cup. It was The Tigers’ largest ever victory in T20 Internationals as they finished on top of Group B followed by Scotland who also progressed to the next round.

Bangladesh started off in the best possible fashion, reaching 45-1 after six overs in what was their most successful powerplay in the tournament so far with Shakib scoring three sixes but was eventually dismissed at 46 off 37 balls while attempting another six, only to be caught by Charles Amini in a fantastic diving effort.

Mahmuddullah struck the fastest 50 of the tournament so far in just 27 balls but the 35 year old was eventually dismissed by being caught on the boundary. In the last five overs, Bangladesh scored an impressive 68 runs to register the highest total of any match in the tournament so far, largely contributed thanks to Afif Hossain (21 runs off 14) and Mohammad Saifuddin (19 runs off six).

The task seemed impossible for minnows Papua New Guinea, who quickly folded to 14-4 during the chase. Kiplin Doriga did his utmost to hold the fort, scoring a respectable 45 runs off 34 balls but as wickets kept tumbling down at the other end, Papua New Guinea were ultimately reduced to 97 runs in 19.3 overs.
