Clippers get the better off the Lakers while Bucks returned to winning ways

(Basketball news) The Los Angeles Lakers lost their third straight game to the Los Angeles Clippers 114-101  as their terrible start to the season continues. For the Clippers, Paul George scored 29 points as the Clippers extended their recent domination over the Lakers with their ninth consecutive victory over the Lakers while Norman Powell added 18 points for the Clippers, who has had seven scorers in double figures during their fifth victory in the past six games without injured star Kawhi Leonard, who has missed his 10th game of this season. For the Lakers, LeBron James scored 30 points before leaving the court with pain in his left leg as he is on pace to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar this season to become the NBA's career scoring leader, hit four 3-pointers and added eight rebounds and five assists while Anthony Davis had 21 points and nine rebounds as Russell Westbrook added 14 points and nine assists.

''I feel good, besides the injury,'' James said. ''We'll get pictures on it tomorrow and go from there. Didn't do anything strenuous on the play. When I landed, I felt a little spasm or strain in my groin. Immediately I asked to come out on the next play down.''

''We'll let him see our medical staff first,'' Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. ''It's just a lot of adversity. He's been trying his heart out just to be there for us and play at a high level. I thought he had it going really, really well tonight. But it's the NBA season, man. You've got to be ready for a little bit of everything, so we'll see what the results are once he gets evaluated and be ready to move forward.''

''I was proud of how we came out in the third quarter and took control of the game again,'' Lue said. ''Just being able to get it back in the second half and understanding it's a competition, not a show. I know it's the two LA teams, but we're playing to get better every night, so it's not a show.''

The Milwaukee Bucks returned to winning ways as they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 136-132 after two overtimes. For the Bucks, Jevon Carter had career highs of 36 points and 12 assists as Giannis Antetokounmpo sat out with a sore left knee and Jrue Holiday was out with a sprained right ankle while Brook Lopez added 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks. For the OKC, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 39 points, Tre Mann had 21 points and Josh Giddey added 18 points, 15 rebounds and six assists as they lost their fourth straight match.

''He's a guy that loves to play basketball, loves to compete,'' Budenholzer said. ''He's got a ton of confidence. It's great to see him take advantage of this opportunity, every opportunity. He's one of those guys, I think, when you give him a look, give him a crack, he's going to come busting through it.''

''Though both teams were exhausted by the second overtime,'' Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. ''Guys were out there for long stretches of time. Our guys battled. That's just one of those games that both teams battled, somebody wins, somebody loses.''

''We had a lot of guys step up and play a big role in the win tonight,'' Bucks forward Bobby Portis said. ''A lot of guys stepped up, got defensive stops, made a lot of baskets. Ultimately, it was a great team win.''
