(Football news) The second of three quick meetings between Chelsea and Manchester City will see the Blues welcome the English champions to Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter’s side achieved a point in a 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest while the visitors were held to their own 1-1 stalemate against Everton. Chelsea welcome Pep Guardiola’s men to West London with both sides aiming to lay down a marker after disappointing results on New Year’s Eve.

Chelsea are looking to snap their three-game losing run away from home in all competitions, but the travelling side have only had a Raheem Sterling goal to cheer before Serge Aurier expertly volleyed home a deserved leveller for Nottingham Forest. The Blues are languishing in mid-table in ninth place as they are below London counterparts Brentford and Fulham at the time of writing. The January arrivals could soon arrive as the likes David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos are touted as talents of the future while Benoit Badiashile is ought to hit the ground running as Chelsea’s is believed to have stalled in their efforts to bring Benfica and Argentina star Enzo Fernandez to the English capital.

After Erling Haaland had scored his 21st goal of the Premier League season. Everton’s Gray rifled an arrowed shot into the top corner and there was to be no late stoppage time winner for the hosts.The Toffees saw Man City enter the New Year with a seven points behind Arsenal in the table as that gap has since increased to eight after the Gunners’ goalless draw with Newcastle United. They travel to West London with no clean sheets from their last four Premier League matches and just one in their last seven.

City will be encouraged by their record of only one away defeat from their 25 matches in the top flight, and have not lost since 2012 in their opening game of the calendar year. Man City have dumped Chelsea out of the EFL Cup via a 2-0 scoreline in the third round just before the World Cup, and both the sides met in the 2021-22 campaign which ended in a 1-0 victories for Guardiola’s men, who look for revenge after their Blues-inflicted Champions League heartbreak in Porto.
