Cañizares: Ashamed but At Peace with Valencia’s ‘Death’

Santiago Cañizares, Valencia’s great goalkeeper who played in 305 games for the Batmen, has voiced his disapproval of the club’s management, which is currently dealing with a serious issue.
Seeing such a squad makes me feel humiliated. It is similar to the chronicles of a slow dying. This team will never discover who they are under the current leadership. Even though the players are doing their best, many of them would never don the uniform of a team with Valencia’s accomplishments and history. Attempts to recruit have failed.

The fact that we are all involved in this in some manner makes me feel guilty and powerless. I was frequently whistled at Mestalla: either for leading and playing poorly, or for the draw with Real Madrid, Héctor Cúper and I departed Mestalla with our heads down.

Despite the fact that the administration could have done much more, the fans have put up with this for a long time. They haven’t done anything to inform the public about what it’s like to endure under Valencia’s current management. I’ve already come to terms with the fact that this is going to happen, so I’m embarrassed but not really sorry. On El Partidazo de Cope, Cañizares stated, “It’s a slow death.”

Valencia is now in the relegation zone after 22 games, sitting in 19th place, second to last.
