(Football news) Belgium got a 3-2 win over Germany in a friendly on Tuesday as Domenico Tedesco made it two wins from two matches in the past four days. Belgium beat Germany who are also set to host the Euro 2024 for the first time since 1954. Both the teams wanted to bounce back from their shock group stage exits in the World Cup but it was Belgium who were the better side as they completely outclassed Germany in the first half.

The Germans beat Peru 2-0 on Saturday in their first international since their World Cup. Belgium took the lead in Cologne with a superb goal from Yannick Carrasco as he was left unmarked with lots of space on the left and rifled home the ball in the sixth minute.

Germany were left bamboozled and struggled to get a foothold in the game as Belgium scored again after some awful defending from the German, with Kevin De Bruyne putting a through ball to Romelu Lukaku who finished it from inside the box. The Inter striker had scored a hat trick in their 3-0 win over Sweden in their opening Group F Euro 2024 qualifier match and he could have added another goal to his tally in the 20th minute when he rattled the bar with a header from Kevin De Bryne’s corner.

Germany finally got back in the game and started a comeback as they earned a penalty on the stroke of half-time and Werder Bremen striker Niclas Fullkrug scored from the spot for his sixth goal in six international matches for Germany. Despite a better second half from the hosts, they subsequently conceded a third as De Bruyne finished off another swift Belgium counter attack after the German defence was caught napping once again. Serge Gnabry got a goal back in the 88th minute, but it was not enough to deny Domenico Tedesco a second win.

“We were far too passive and did not put them under any pressure,” said Germany coach Hansi Flick. “Belgium used this mercilessly. We had to change things around a bit to find stability.

“You could see that we have a lot of work in front of us. We want to be more active and we did it better after about 30 minutes. For us, with an eye on the future, that’s where we have to work on. For everyone to work together.”
