(Football news) Barcelona were put through the wringer by 3rd division side CF Intercity. The Blaugrana needed extra time to win 4-3 and qualify for the Copa Del Rey Round of 16. Robert Lewandowski and Pedri weren’t a part of the squad while Inaki Pena started to give Marc-Andre ter Stegen a rest. Gavi and Raphinha started on the bench and came on in the 2nd half. It took the visitors just 4 minutes to open the scoring as Ronald Araujo headed home Pablo Torre’s corner. Barcelona had a few more chances to make it 2-0 but Intercity defended well.

In the 2nd half Intercity came out with much more purpose and got their reward as former La Masia player Oriol Soldevilla got the equaliser in the 59th minute. Ousmane Dembele regained the lead but Soldevilla equalised once again. Substitute Raphinha looked to have won it with his goal in the 77th minute but 9 minutes later Soldevilla scored again to complete his hat-trick. The game went into extra time where Ansu Fati scored the winner. Xavi would’ve been hoping for a comfortable night but the Barcelona defence was all over the place.

Atletico Madrid won 2-0 against 2nd division side Real Oviedo. Diego Simeone surprisingly went with a very strong line-up, quite possibly his strongest. Simeone has clearly decided to prioritise the Copa Del Rey but it is a risk because they have to face Barcelona on the weekend. Antoine Griezmann continued his incredible form as he assisted Marcos Llorente for the opening goal in the 24th minute. Substitutes Angel Correa and Pablo Barrios combined to seal the match as the latter scored the goal to make it 2-0, 6 minutes before the end of regulation time.
