(Football news) Atletico Madrid bounced back after the Copa Del Rey loss against Real Madrid as they defeated Osasuna 1-0 away from home. Diego Simeone started with a 4-4-2 with Antoine Griezmann and Angel Correa up front. Alvaro Morata and Memphis Depay were on the bench. The game in general was cagey as neither team created too many clear cut opportunities. The only goal of the match came in the 74th minute as Rodrigo de Paul assisted substitute Saul Niguez. The win puts Atletico Madrid within 5 points of 3rd placed Real Sociedad.

Barcelona continued their unbeaten run with a 1-0 win away against Girona. Xavi decided to rest Pedri for the match. Marcos Alonso started ahead of Jordi Alba and Alex Balde while Eric Garcia also started ahead of Andreas Christensen. In the 26th minute Ousmane Dembele injured himself and was replaced by Pedri. The 1st half performance by Barcelona was pretty ordinary. Xavi brought on Alba at half time and the veteran created Pedri’s goal which turned out to be the match winner. Girona were constantly putting pressure on Barcelona but in the end couldn’t grab an equaliser.

Real Madrid drew at the Santiago Bernabéu against 3rd placed Real Sociedad. Carlo Ancelotti rested Luka Modric and had to play Eduardo Camavinga at left back. Real Madrid played some of the best football they have played all season. Los Blancos had so many big chances but they just couldn’t score. Alex Remiro pulled off a couple of really good saves and La Real’s defence was also really good. Some of Madrid’s build up play was special but unfortunately for the Merengues they couldn’t get the 3 points. The draw now puts Real Madrid 5 points behind League leaders Barcelona with 20 games left.
