(Football news) Barcelona will take on arch rivals Real Madrid in the Copa Del Rey semi final. Till now all the games have been single legs but now the semi final will be determined over two legs. Barcelona’s first match of the competition was an extra time win over CF Intercity. The Round of 16 against was a 5-0 win over AD Ceuta FC after which they got a narrow 1-0 win over Real Sociedad. The Blaugrana are currently 5 points clear of Real Madrid on top of the La Liga table.

Real Madrid’s road to the semi final has been very bumpy. In the first round they just about defeated Cacereno 1-0. In the Round of 16 they came back from 2-0 down to defeat Villarreal 3-2. They faced City rivals Atletico Madrid in the quarter finals and once again came back from a goal down to win 2-1. Now they face their other rivals in the last 4. The two Spanish giants are already fighting for the league title which still has a long way to go. A knockout game between these two clubs promises to be an absolute blockbuster. In the recent past Real Madrid has struggled in the Copa Del Rey.

Los Blancos last win in the competition was in 2014 which was also under Carlo Ancelotti. That was the tournament where Los Blancos defeated Barcelona in the final. Since then the two teams have faced each other only once in the cup which was the semi final in 2018/19. On that occasion Barcelona won 3-1 but the match was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. As of now Barcelona look like the favourites to win but a lot of things could change as the first leg will be played on 1st/2nd March at the Santiago Bernabéu with the return leg at the Nou Camp on the 4th/5th April.
