Real Madrid femino knockout mighty Manchester City to reach their first ever UWCL Group stage

(Football news) Real Madrid women's team created history by defeating Manchester City 2-1 on aggregate to make it to their first ever UWCL group stage. Real Madrid's femino team was formed just a year back in 2020. In the illustrious history of the greatest club in world football, a women's team was the only thing that was missing.

In their first ever season in the Spanish top flight, Los Blancos finished 2nd in the league qualifying for the UWCL in the process. Real Madrid made a few valuable additions to the squad before the start of the current season spending big money on some big names.

In men's football, Real Madrid has a pedigree like no other club while Manchester City is a club that has just acquired glory and worldwide recognition. In women's football it is completely opposite as Real Madrid has only existed for little more than a year while Manchester City have been in the mix for over 32 years.

The Los Blancos without a doubt were the underdogs going into the game but the name Real Madrid itself has a goodwill like no other. Real Madrid's star forward and Talisman Kosvore Aslani was tested positive for Covid-19 and missed the first leg. Despite the Swede’s absence the Merengues managed to salvage a draw at home thanks to right back Kenti Robles' last minute strike to make it 1-1.

Coming to Manchester, the tie was in the balance due to the recent abolishment of the away goals rule. Manchester City dominated possession for the entire game but lacked quality in the final third. Real Madrid defended as a team with their captain Ivana Andrés at the heart of the defence. New signing Nahikari García scored a goal which was incorrectly ruled out for offside but that didn't stop the royal whites.

Claudia Zornoza, another newcomer, scored an invaluable goal to give Real Madrid the advantage. Los Blancos managed to protect their lead thanks to defensive performances by right back Kenti Robles and holding midfielder Aurélie Kaci. Manchester missed a few very good chances including an open goal miss.

The UWCL group stage draw is set to take place on 13th September where Real Madrid will be in the Pot 3 or 4. Manchester City on the other hand will now play in the continental cup.
