La Liga preview: Can Real Madrid and Barcelona match up Atlético Madrid’s early form?

(Football news) Real Madrid and Barcelona both had disappointing draws and will be looking to get back to winning ways. Atletico on the other hand won both their matches and sit on the top of the table with Sevilla temporarily, with Valencia winning comfortably 3-0 against Alaves to go on top of the table.

Atlético Madrid take on Villareal in Wanda Metropolitano in what could be a tricky fixture for the defending champions. After narrowly winning the last two matches Diego Simone would be hoping that they assert their dominance over the ‘yellow submarine’. The major positive has been the form of Angel Correra as he has scored all three goals for Atletico this season and will be looking to continue rich goal scoring form. Diego Simone would be hoping that a quick solution is reached over the transfer situation of Saul Niguez as it may hamper the team's preparation heading into the match against Villareal.

Barcelona take on Getafe in their third match of the season, Ronald Koeman would be hoping for a quick change of fortune after suffering a disappointing draw against Athletic Club. Barcelona are still finding their feet without Messi as players like Depay and Pedri are doing their best to fill in that massive void. Koeman will welcome back Ansu Fati back to training after a lengthy injury lay off for him, although he won't be fit for the Getafe game he’ll most likely feature after the international break.

Real Madrid take on Real Betis in a must win game for Los Blancos. Carlo Ancelloti will be looking to bounce back after narrowly scrapping a 3-3 draw against Levante, the only positive he can draw from the last performance is Vinicius Junior as he scored two wonderfully crafted goals to get a draw when the team was trailing 3-1 down. With increasing rumours of Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelloti is only focused on winning his next match as he quickly shut down the rumours of Mbappe in the press conference. He will have to make a tough decision of benching Hazard as Vinicius is in great form to play him alongside Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Sevilla take on newly promoted side Elche in a bid to stay top of the table. Julen Lopetegui's side won a close contest against Getafe as new signing Erik Lamela scored a very late winner to take Sevilla top of the table. Sevilla are turning into the dark horses for the La Liga crown as renewed vigour and passion along with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid squads getting weaker makes them a proper title challengers. The signing of Erik Lamela is already paying dividence as he has scored two crucial goals for Sevilla, the fans would be hoping that he keeps scoring goals for them.
