IPL Match 25: Prithvi ‘Show’ powers DC to an impressive 7 wicket Victory over KKR

Delhi Capitals rattled the Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets to climb to the second spot on the points table, courtesy of Prithvi Shaw's power packed half century at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday.

DC skipper Rishabh Pant had asked Morgan's men to bat first at the Motera Strip. KKR opener Shubnam Gill finally found his form back after a string of failures in previous games. Gill scored 43 off 38 deliveries while fellow opener Nitish Rana (15 off 12) Rahul Tripathi (19 off 17), and Dinesh Karthik (14 off 10) failed to capitalise on their starts and fuel the KKR scoring rate. Birthday Boy Andre Russel then chipped in from the middle order for KKR and launched the Axar Patel and Avesh Khan spear headed bowling unit to the fences, with his firely 45 runs off 27 balls that helped the Knights post a fighting 154/6 in 20 overs.

Capitals, who were going to miss out on the services of their seasoned spinner Amit Mishra owing to a shoulder injury, did a fine job restricting an impressive KKR batting line up to a small total. Lalit Yadav who came in as Mishra's replacement didn't fail to impress as he claimed 2/13 in his 3 overs to help his side restrict the Morgan led team to a manageable total.

It was a Prithvi Shaw show after that as the opener gave DC a swashbuckling start by slamming 6 boundaries off Shivam Mavi in the opening over. Prithvi became the only second batsman to hit six fours in an over after Ajinkya Rahane in the IPL. He along with his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan launched a full fledged attack on the KKR bowling unit in the powerplay. Shaw's sensational knock saw him hitting the fastest century of the season with the explosive opener only requiring 18 balls to register his fifty.

Starting brilliantly with six fours in the opening over and then hitting a quickfire 18-ball half-century, Shaw led DC to a clinical victory with his 41-ball 82. Besides, Dhawan with his 46 off 47 balls anchored yet another chase as the duo slammed 132 runs in the opening partnership. For KKR, Pat Cummins was once again impressive with the ball by claiming all the 3 wickets that fell from DC conceding only 24 runs in his 4 over spell. DC chased the target in 16.3 overs finishing the chase with the score of 156/3.
