IPL Match 23: Gaikwad powers CSK to a clinical 7 wicket win over SRH

Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets owing to Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plesis' brilliant half centuries at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 172, du Plessis and Gaikwad gave the yellow brigade a perfect start as the duo put up a brilliant 129 run opening partnership. The partnership looked well tuned with Faf batting aggressively from one end and Ruturaj playing a steady knock from the other during the powerplay overs. Nevertheless, Gaikwad shifted gears after the power play and kept the run rate in control with his exhilarating shots. 

Gaikwad played a match winning knock of 75 from 44 deliveries lacing it with 12 fours before falling prey to Rashid Khan. Moeen Ali who walked in at number three also launched Rashid for a couple of boundaries before heading back to the pavilion scoring 15 runs off 8 balls. Faf carried on his great form and scored 56 runs off 38 balls with 6 boundaries and a six before getting dismissed by Rashid.

In the end, CSK stalwarts Ravindra Jadeja (7 off 6) and Suresh Raina (17 off 15) sealed the game with their cautious approach, taking the Dhoni led side to the finish line with 7 wickets in hand.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad had won the toss and chose to bat first. The Orange army didn't get an ideal start as they lost their opener Jonny Bairstow (7 off 5) to Sam Curran in the fourth over. David Warner initially appeared to struggle with regards to timing the ball with perfection in the power play. However, he held one end of the crease to score a slow fifty taking 55 balls to score 57 runs. The skipper shared a fine partnership with Manish Pandey as the duo amassed 106 runs for the 2nd wicket. 

Pandey hit an impressive 61 runs off 46 balls, slamming 4 fours and a six. In the final overs, Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav played some fine shots to take their side to a competitive total of 171/3 in 20 overs. Williamson scored an unbeaten 26 off 10 while Jadhav hit 12 off 4. 

With this result CSK moved on top of the table with 5 wins in their 6 games amassing 10 points while SRH now languish at the bottom of the table with just 1 win in their 5 outings and only 2 points against their name.
