IPL 2021 – KL Rahul leads from the front to guide PBKS to an easy 9 wicket win against MI

The Punjab Kings finally tasted success after three consecutive defeats as their Skipper KL Rahul led from the front to rattle Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

Rahul had won the toss and decided to bowl first against the defending champions. The proceeding started off well for Kings as their bowlers put up a very disciplined show to keep things tight for the strong MI batting order during the powerful. Indian speedster Mohammed Shami along with spinner Ravi Bishnoi who was picked in place for Murugan Ashwin restricted MI to a below 131-6. While Bishnoi took 2-21, Shami (2-21) sent the in-form Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion with his other prey being the danger man Krunal Pandya to ensure the five time Champions were restricted to a low total.

MI skipper played the all important knock of 63 off 52 and shared the significant 79-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav who scored 33 off 27. The MI batters including the limited overs great Rohit too struggled to take on the PBKS bowling attack as their formidable middle order only managed to garner 34 runs in the last five overs to end the Mumbai innings with a small target on board  

Kings were off to a good start with Mayank Agarwal putting up a decent show with his 25 off 20. His fellow opener Rahul yet again led from the front. The PBKS skipper carried on his form and smashed another half century. He received solid support from Chris Gayle who looked in great touch to make sure the momentum remained on Punjab's side. 

Rahul hit a brilliant 60 off 52 balls while Universe boss Gayle slammed 43 off 35 balls to help the Kings end their three-match draught. Gayle and Rahul's fiery batting sealed the proceedings for PBKS in the one-sided game as they chased the below par target with 14 balls remaining to hand MI their third defeat of the season. With this result Punjab have jumped to the 5th spot in the points table.
