Here’s what you can expect from the Blaydes vs Lewis UFC Fight Night

According to a press release by the UFC, this weekend will feature a battle between two heavyweight contenders in Las Vegas when Curtis Blaydes, ranked 2 will take on Derrick Lewis, ranked 4. The co-main event will feature women’s bantamweight contender, Ketlen Vieira (rank 6) who will look to kick off 2021 against Yana Kunitskaya (rank 7). Featherweight grapplers Darrick Minner and Charles Rosa will also clash and hope to build on their winning streak while heavyweight contender Aleksei Oleinik (rank 10) will face Chris Daukaus in his 75th professional appearance. It’s for the second time this month that Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis will clash in a bid to determine the next heavyweight title contender. Blaydes is currently on a four fight winning streak with a record of 9-2, having only lost to two time title challenger Francis Ngannou. He said, “I’m the most dangerous heavyweight in every situation imaginable. After I beat Derrick Lewis I will have the respect that I deserve. If you beat the guy who makes the most noise, now you’ve got the noise behind you. I respect the power that Derrick Lewis possesses, and I understand that on the feet he is a legitimate threat, but I’m not just a grappler, I have heavy hands as well. Derrick Lewis has only one path to victory, he has to keep me on the feet and that’s one of the things I don’t plan on letting happen.” His opponent Lewis is also on a three fight winning streak and has a record for the most knockouts in the heavyweight division after defeating Aleksei Oleinik in August. He has also won against Roy Nelson and title challenger Francis Ngannou and holds a record of 12-3. He said, “What makes me dangerous is the power that I have in my hand and my will to win. I don’t care who my opponent is. I believe I have the tools to put away any man. I am coming in the best shape of my career, a lot quicker, more agile. It’s my time now to really prove to these guys that it’s not going to be easy when they see my name on the paper. This fight right here is going to be very violent and very bloody. I feel like I could break Curtis by the third round and that’s where it’s going to happen. It’s going to be a very intense battle. We both want the title shot after this, and I believe that I can get the job done.” In a classic grappler vs striker pairing, Blaydes and Lewis will be facing each other in the octagon after eliminating every possible opponent. They are the two fighters behind Ngannou who are in the queue with the victor between the two fighting for championship gold in 2021. Blaydes will be looking to drag Lewis to the canvas while the ‘Black Beast’ will hope to knock out Blaydes to achieve victory.
