Extreme E join hands with Polymateria to take on global plastic pollution

According to a press release by Extreme E, the innovative electric racing Championship with a sustainable conscience announced its association with Polymateria and its path-breaking technology which is on a mission to take on the global plastic pollution, today on World Recycling Day. As per an estimate around 32% of all plastic packaging used around the world goes un-recycled or is improperly disposed and a large 80% of plastic found in the ocean generates as a result of this unmanaged waste and comes on land. Polymateria has developed the world’s first ever plastic having a time controlled open air biodegradability that will return swiftly and safely to nature if it is disposed of in the natural environment, while also allowing for recycling to take place. The Championship and its teams will utilise Polymateria’s Biotransformation technology at its global X Prix events, that will include cups, a range of food packaging solutions and also fully biodegradable facemasks in future. The materials thus used will be collected and sent for recycling, with most of it turned into secondary applications. Alejandro Agag, Extreme E Founder and CEO, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Polymateria to drive-up awareness of solutions for plastic pollution globally while reducing our own environmental footprint. “The science-based approach it takes provides a unique opportunity to visualise their technology in action at key race sites, illustrating both the global problem but a credible solution in action. This is another example of Extreme E embracing the latest and best global innovations to tackle major environmental challenges.” Niall Dunne, CEO of Polymateria, said: “It is incredibly exciting to be working with Extreme E which shares our passion for turning the tide on plastic pollution. “Together with Extreme E, we are bringing peer reviewed science to life so that people can see what is possible and make their voices heard in demanding better innovation, meaningful change and an end to the fugitive plastic crisis.” Extreme E will commence in Saudi Arabia on 3 April 2021, featuring electric SUVs racing in extreme environments around the world which are already facing the adversities of climate and environmental crisis .
