England cricketer Ben Foakes ruled out of Test Series against New Zealand, Billings & Hameed added to the squad

England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes has been ruled out of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand after tearing his left hamstring.

Foakes, who was named in the England squad earlier this month, was set to play his first Test on home soil next month at Lord’s, endured the injury on Sunday while he slipped in the dressing room after Surrey’s County Championship match against Middlesex at the Kia Oval.

The wicketkeeper will now be assessed and work closely on his rehabilitation with the Surrey medical team. Foakes is expected to miss out on action for at least 3 months.

Kent’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings and Nottinghamshire’s top-order batsman Haseeb Hameed have been called up by England Men’s Head Coach Chris Silverwood.

Billings, a key member of England’s limited over squads, is yet to make a Test debut.

Hameed, who has been in great form during the 2021 county season, has hit 474 runs with an average of 52.66, last representing England in Tests in November 2016. His three Test outings were against India during England’s winter tour during 2016.
