According to a press release by Melbourne Renegades, they have confirmed today that Big Bash League – 10 Player of the Tournament Sam Harper has extended his deal with the club.

Harper was already on board for the Renegades for the BBL|11 but the new deal confirms a further two seasons, through to at least the conclusion of BBL|13.

“I’ve loved my time at the Renegades. I’m grateful for the opportunity I was given a couple of years ago and I’m always keen to repay the club for the faith they’ve shown in me,” Harper said.

“We know we can perform a lot better than what we’ve shown over the last two seasons and I’m looking forward to being part of the group that helps get us back up competing in the finals.”

Harper had joined the Renegades squad as a Local Replacement Player on the eve of the eighth edition of the BBL.He has scored 971 runs with 26 dismissals to his name. Harper was a part of the BBL|08 title-winning side and was named in the Renegades' Team of the Decade earlier this year.

“Sam has shown himself to be a dynamic player at the top of the order and a reliable presence behind the stumps throughout his 42 games for the club,” Melbourne Renegades List Manager Andrew Lynch said.

“At 24, his best cricket is ahead of him and we’re looking forward to seeing the level he can take his game to over the coming seasons.”

Renegades General Manager David Lever said Harper’s contract extension caps an exciting string of signings that features a number of players re-committing to the club.

“Sam came to us as a young player hungry for an opportunity and in just a few seasons he’s won a title, become one of our leading run scorers and is now our reigning Player of the Season,” Lever said.

“Our future looks bright with Sam’s extension following the new deals for Mackenzie Harvey, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Zak Evans.

“With Kane Richardson, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh providing the experience, our new coach will have a lot to work with heading into BBL|11 and beyond.”
