Bangladesh kicks off series with huge win over New Zealand, man of the match Shakib Al Hasan shines with bat and ball

Dhaka, (Cricket news): The New Zealand tour of Bangladesh started off on a bright note for the hosts as Bangladesh recorded their first win over the Black caps in T20Is. Bangladesh have been in top form over the last few matches and can pull off major upsets in the upcoming T20 World Cup. New Zealand batting collapsed for their joint lowest score of 60 runs although they did not have any members of their T20 World Cup squad playing in the match.

Mustafizur Rahman scalped the last three wickets as Shakib Al Hasan bowled a brilliant spell  as he took 2 wickets and gave away only 10 runs in his four overs. Bangladesh’s bowlers started striking from the very first over as Mahedi Hasan caught and bowled debutant Rachin Ravindra in the third ball of the match. Things looked worse for the Kiwis as Nasum Ahmed struck twice in the fourth over as the score was 9-4 but captain Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls jointly top scored with 18 runs each to take the team score to 43.

After the departure of Latham, the New Zealand side collapsed again as they lost the last five wickets for 17 runs. With a target of 61, Bangladesh’s batsmen had an easy task but had a troubled start as another debutant Cole McConchie took the wicket of Mohammad Naim in the second over. Liton Das departed in the very next over as he was stumped by the Kiwi Captain Latham as Ajaz Patel tried to delay their victory.

Shakib Al Hasan stayed in the crease for a few overs as he brought some stability and found Mushfiqur Rahim giving him steady company. Rachin Ravindra might have had a forgetful batting debut but bagged the prized wicket of Shakib Al Hasan in the 10th over. Bangladesh’s Captain Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim finished off the match as they are one up in the five match series.

While Shakib Al Hasan was the star performer of the match, Ajaz Patel was the most economical from both the sides. He bowled a tight spell under pressure, giving away a meagre 7 runs in four overs while taking the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan. All of the five matches are scheduled to take place in Shere Bangla National Stadium.
