Allan Saint-Maximin earns Newcastle a point against Leeds as wait for Premier League win continues

(Football news) With this week’s Premier League action already underway at St. James’ Park, Newcastle were back home after a spirited performance against Manchester United where many fans would say they were unlucky to not get a point. Both Newcastle and Leeds were looking for their first win of the Premier League season with Steve Bruce adamant to win the Magpies over while Bielsa hoped his meticulous attention to detail will finally pay dividends.

It was Leeds that opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Raphinha cut in from the right and his cross went in the far corner of Newcastle’s goal. With the free spirited Leeds team looking more likely to score, disgruntled Newcastle fans sang “we want Brucey out” from every corner of the stadium. However, it was Newcastle that shifted the momentum in their favor when Allan Saint-Maximin drilled an equalizer with a shot in the bottom corner at the stroke of half-time.

With both teams not content with a point each, Steve Bruce and Marcelo Bielsa urged their team to find another goal and bring home the three points. Both goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier produced some fantastic saves to ensure the scores remained level while the attacking players failed to break the deadlock.

The match ended 1-1 with the result doing little to satisfy either the managers, players or the fans. Both teams find themselves on the wrong side of the Premier League table as Newcastle are now placed 18th, climbing a spot after winning a point while Leeds are now 16th. Both teams will need to turn their fortunes around and fast, or they might be a genuine relegation possibility for two iconic Premier League clubs.
