UFC Fight Night 190, better known as UFC Vegas 30 was a cracker showdown with some marquee performances. With the event airing live at 1:30 am India time, it surely helped a lot of the late nighters stay up and watch a great night of fights.

American Top Team fighter Renato Moicano put up a clinic on the mat versus the tough Jai Herbert. Herbert found success on the feet but he was no match to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Moicano.
Moiciano found his rhythm on the ground and was quick to capitalize on his strength. Round 1 was a good back and forth contest with Miocano establishing the dominance of his BJJ. Herbert struck him with a head kick- right hand combo that hurt Moicano but he was quickly to recover.
Round 2 started with Miocano taking Herbert to the ground immediately and applying all his technique in keeping him there. The constant strikes eventually took a toll on Herbert and Moicano sunk in a deep rear naked choke that saw Herbert tap immediately.
A dominant performance by Moicano that sets him to step up in a stacked Lightweight (155 lbs) division. The Featherweight (145 lbs) fight between Andre Fili and Daniel Pineda had fireworks written all over it. 27-14 Fili showed traits of old school fighting and showed how much his striking has improved. Pineda had few options to dodge the crisp boxing of Fili.
Round 1 dubbed by most experts was a 10-8 round with Fili hurting Pineda on multiple occasions but choosing not to burn out his gas tank. Round 2 started with Pineda taking charge only to eat a spinning kick to the body. Pineda gets close to strike and unfortunately is greeted with an unintentional eye poke.
Herb Dean pauses the action and calls the doctor to have a look. After a few minutes of examining the eye closely, when Pineda couldn’t identify the doctors’ finger, the official had no option but to call off the fight resulting in a No-Contest.
The co-main event of the evening was in the heavyweight division between Canadian bulldozer Tanner Boser and Ovince St. Preux. Fondly called OSP, who has had his stints at light heavyweight (205 lbs) and heavyweight (205+ lbs) has rightfully found his home at the heavyweight division as he may have found some difficulty in cutting the weight. After missing weight in his outing with Jamaha Hill, OSP revised his plans of going back to light heavyweight and focussed on skill building at heavyweight instead. With 4 losses and 2 wins in his last 6, OSP needed to win this in order to stay in conversation.
The Canadian bulldozer who had 2 back to back losses against Andrei Arlovski and Ilir Latifi had to have the same mindset as OSP… a winning one! This truly was a deciding factor and a major block to overcome for both, OSP and Boser. The fight however, lived up to the hype and we saw a rather lazy OSP taking on a super charged Boser. Yes, OSP managed a few takedowns, but it was Boser that was on a mission ready to prove a point. Each time Boser was taken down, he quickly sprang up and fired vicious shots back at OSP. The leg kicks made a big difference and Boser was moving like a middleweight (185 lbs) in the heavyweight division.
The second round had a minor controversy with it seeming like Boser held the fence to get up from an OSP takedown. But a little over 2 mins into Round 2, Boser landed a vicious knee followed by an overhand right that crippled OSP. OSP fell to his knees and that was enough for Jason Herzog and he stopped the fight.Boser gets back in the winning column while OSP remains without victory in the heavyweight division.
The main event of the evening was between two gigantic heavyweights. 6’5 245 lbs Ciryl Gane taking on 6’7 265 Alexander Volkov was truly an epic battle between two massive men that seemed to be a must watch for all MMA fans. Whilst Gane may not be winning fans over the performance of this fight, he surely has his unbeaten record intact with 9 straight wins in his pro MMA career. While the first and fourth rounds were particularly close, Gane controlled the second, third and fifth clearly. Volkov didn’t have an answer to Gane’s stiff jabs and it seemed the Frenchman's strategy was to pick Volkov apart instead of having the killer instinct and going for the finish. Something that we have been seeing off late with the heavies in the UFC. I'm sure the fans missed the raw power action that they must have predicted in this fight, but it surely seems Gane has gotten closer to the world title and with this loss, Volkov has dropped off a few spots. Regardless, dropping a few kilos could help Volkov as he seemed completely exhausted at the end of the fight.
Not the most entertaining heavyweight battle, but nonetheless has got Gane in the mix to face Lewis for the interim championship belt. With Lewis in the fray, Gane will have to up his strategy and skill as Lewis is another beast altogether. Either way, we look forward to seeing the heavies throw some leather in the octagon to entertain us fans.
