The stage is set for Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz’s thrilling first-ever grass-court matchup in the Wimbledon 2025 men’s semifinals. Both players enter the competition in excellent form, with Alcaraz defeating Fritz in straight sets on hard courts in Miami 2023 and the 2024 Laver Cup.
Fritz expressed satisfaction at the surface move, saying, “I’m glad we’re not playing Roland-Garros on clay, because that would be an absolute nightmare.” He said that grass is a fantastic equalizer, giving him confidence based on his performance in previous rounds and high-pressure matches. “I truly know the way that I played the first two sets today vs Khachanov, there’s not much any opponent on the other side can do,” Fritz told me. Reflecting on his experience, he stated, “It’s given me a lot of confidence… I’ve played in pressure matches. I don’t think anything will be more difficult than me playing Frances in New York for a spot in the final.”
Alcaraz, on the other hand, recognized Fritz’s performance this grass season and applauded his aggressive style. “He’s playing excellent tennis. I think his game is really good on grass; he plays flat, energetically, and with a huge serve,” Alcaraz remarked. He stressed his attention and commitment to maintain or even improve his performance in his match against Norrie. “If I play like today’s match, I will get a chance, for sure,” said the player. Alcaraz is looking to build on his 23-match winning streak. “I just don’t want to stop there, just want to keep it going,” according to him.
This semi-final match promises to be a thrilling fight of opposing skills and mental strength on Wimbledon’s renowned grass courts.
