Qatar to Host First FIP Asia Padel Cup

Doha is preparing to host the inaugural FIP Asia Padel Cup, a prestigious continental national team tournament, on October 17-24.  The International Padel Federation (FIP) arranged this unprecedented event in collaboration with the Qatar Tennis Federation and Padel Asia, with the goal of revitalizing continental championships and raising the sport’s reputation.

With two unique phases, the tournament promises to be an exciting ride.  Phase 2 will begin with 17 dynamic teams rated between 5th and 21st in the Asia-Oceania area from October 17 to 19.  Imagine that these teams will be split up into four fiercely competitive groups, with one powerhouse group consisting of five teams and three groups each consisting of four teams.  As the winning team from each group receives the golden ticket to the Final 8 stage, the excitement is evident.

The peak of the tournament’s excitement will be reached during the Final 8, which is scheduled to set hearts racing from October 20 to 24.  Here, the top four ranked teams from the continent’s padel elite will compete against the four champions that advanced from the first round.  The renowned Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex will host matches in this exciting stage, which promises to be a display of talent and sportsmanship.

“The First Edition of the FIP Asia Padel Cup in Qatar is a memorable moment for our continent and the sport of padel,” said Tareq Zainal, President of Padel Asia and Tournament Director, who was unable to contain his joy.  This tournament is a celebration of the aspirations and outstanding expansion of padel throughout Asia, representing more than just competition.

“The FIP Asia Padel Cup in Doha is fitting, as it marks the place where padel has expanded with scale and ambition,” said FIP President Luigi Carraro, echoing same thoughts.  For their hospitality and assistance in planning such an important event, I would especially want to thank the Qatar Tennis Squash and Badminton Federation.
