(Football news) In gameweek 11, the Toffees were forced to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, while the hosts inflicted further suffering on Burnley with a 2-0 thrashing.

After defeating Manchester United on September 30, Crystal Palace only managed to pick up one point from three games against Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur, scoring just one goal in the process. October had been a month of Halloween horrors for the team.

But last weekend in Lancashire, Roy Hodgson’s team gave Burnley another scare as Jeffrey Schlupp and Tyrick Mitchell both took advantage of errors made by Vincent Kompany’s defense to end Palace’s winless run of three games and hand the Clarets their record-breaking sixth straight home loss of the season.

While Sam Johnstone did not have a totally stress-free afternoon in the Palace goal, Hodgson’s team managed to stay in mid-table obscurity, now sitting in 11th place and just behind Chelsea on goal differential. The England international proved dependable when called upon.

Only Arsenal and Newcastle United can claim a five-game winning streak as well as Palace, who kept the Clarets at bay to earn their fifth clean sheet of the new season at Turf Moor. However, Hodgson’s team has only triumphed once in their last six Premier League visits to Selhurst Park.

London derbies, however, have frequently been the scourge of the Eagles. In their last 20 Premier League home games against teams located outside of the English city, Palace has only lost one, and that loss came against Manchester City, who only managed a 1-0 triumph.

Sadly for the Toffees supporters, only one of Everton’s two left-backs scored at the right end of the field as Sean Dyche’s team was cruelly denied a third straight victory in all competitions. After Brighton made the long trip to Goodison Park last weekend, two left-backs made the net bulge.

The Seagulls had no response to the formidable defensive play of their hosts or their own incompetence until 84 minutes had passed when a cross from Karou Mitoma struck Ashley Young’s thigh and cleared Jordan Pickford to find the back of the Everton goal. The goal came from a near-post rocket from Vitaliy Mykolenko.
